Easter Traditions : Egg-cellent Last-Minute Egg Fillers (That Aren't Candy!)

When I scheduled a last-minute mini vacation in the mountains this weekend, I totally spaced on the fact that Easter is on Sunday. Oops! Luckily I’d raided the Easter candy aisle at Target weeks ago, but as I was hurriedly filling plastic eggs to hide them before we left yesterday morning, I realized I needed to come up with some non-candy options, too.

If you're anything like me and also scrambling (ha!) for last-minute ideas, I’ve got you covered! Here are some egg-ceptional alternatives that you can easily pick up from your local store:

Miniature Toys: Think bouncy balls, toy cars, bubbles, erasers, or mini figurines. Often found in the party aisle, these little treasures are perfect for filling up those plastic eggs and adding an extra element of fun to the hunt.

Stickers: Who doesn’t love a good sticker? You can find sheets of stickers featuring everything from animals to superheroes at most convenience stores or craft shops. They’re a simple yet exciting addition to any Easter egg.

Temporary Tattoos: Kids adore temporary tattoos! Pick up a pack of Easter-themed tattoos or opt for their favorite characters. They’ll love showing off their new ink after the egg hunt.

Puzzle Pieces: Turn the egg hunt into a mini puzzle adventure by hiding different pieces in each egg. Once the hunt is over, kids can work together to assemble the puzzle. It’s a fun way to keep the excitement going even after the eggs are found.

Coins: A few shiny coins tucked inside eggs can be a thrilling discovery for little ones. Plus, it’s a great opportunity to teach them about the value of money and saving up for something special. Up the ante by adding some silver dollars or crisp bills!

Hair Accessories: For those with little fashionistas, consider filling eggs with hair clips, barrettes, or colorful ponytail holders. They’ll love adding some flair to their hair after the egg hunt is over.

Small Trinkets: From keychains to mini popits to light-up rings, there are plenty of small trinkets that can make for egg-cellent surprises. Keep an eye out for budget-friendly options at your local dollar store.

Remember, the key to a successful egg hunt is to keep it simple and fun! These last-minute egg fillers are easy to find and guaranteed to bring smiles to your little one’s faces. Happy hunting!
